parsha thought

On a Lighter Note...

Light

There was thick darkness over the entire land of Egypt for three days. [One Egyptian] did not see his brother, and no one rose from his place for three days, but for all the children of Israel there was light in their dwellings -- Exodus 10:22-23.

As opposed to the other nine plagues which afflicted the Egyptians in a very physical way, each causing catastrophic personal and/or property damage, the Plague of Darkness didn't cause any tangible harm.

The absence of light denies people the ability to see their surroundings, making it very difficult to discern objects or people in their vicinity. While humans are endowed with another four senses, each providing the ability to become somewhat familiar with one's surroundings, none are as critical as sight. Lack of sight is such a major impediment that our sages tell us that to a certain degree a blind person is considered to be lifeless.

The world contains so many items which are designed to improve our lives. Without light, however, the most helpful of implements is reduced to a mere obstacle in one's path. A chair, a table, or a mountain of gold for that matter will trip up the person who walks in darkness.

The Plague of Darkness which struck the Egyptians was a physical reflection of the Egyptians' spiritual state. On a spiritual level, light is provided by Torah and mitzvot -- "A mitzvah is a candle and Torah is light" (Proverbs 6:23). With the benefit of the illumination provided by Torah and its commandments, an entire new world comes to light.

Suddenly, those things which one considered to be obstacles are revealed for what they really are -- creations of G-d's intended to assist in one's spiritual journey.

Furthermore, light motivates to action, as opposed to darkness which breeds depression and lethargy. The "bright" environment created by light also allows people to rise above their self-centered tendencies and truly empathize with others.

The darkness which pervaded the Egyptian society didn't allow them to "rise from their place," they were mired in their own selfish desires and pursuits and couldn't envision a higher goal. And worse yet, they "could not see their brother," their selfishness precluded them from sharing in the joy of a friend or commiserating with them when in distress.

It is in our hands to brighten our lives, a step which in short order leads to personal redemption.

women Rock!

This post is for all my lil bros! they are quite the ladies men, they love women
they think everyone should own one.
they know everything about them like why womens feet are smaller then men?
so they can stand closer to the oven.
their very up to date on current events as well; did you hear about the women who was in a car accident?
she was totally at fault, what was she doing out of the kitchen!
with them around a women would never have to worry about what to do if her watch breaks
b/c she'll always have the kitchen clock.
and they know just what to say, for example what would you say to a women with two black eyes?
nothing, you told her twice
but seriously being a ladies man isn't all its cracked up to be, you gotta learn important things like, what a pashmina is, btw its not a rug, and that coffee is not only a drink but a color!
they're really team players, they really know how to take one for the team, but honestly man; how many teams are you on????

oh and just for the record they live by spell check - and chanie!!!! and for the last time.... THAT CAR IS REAL!!!

So for you who was so unamused ...

p.s. for the record pesh not every post has to get your crackin up but anywhoo...

A little boy wanted $100 badly and prayed for two weeks but nothing happened.

Then he decided to write God a letter requesting the $100. When the postal authorities received the letter addressed to God, USA, they decided to send it to President Bush.

The President was so impressed, touched, and amused that he instructed his secretary to send the little boy a $5.00 bill.

President Bush thought this would appear to be a lot of money to a little boy.

The little boy was delighted with the $5.00 and sat down to write a thank you note to God, which read:

Dear God,

Thank you very much for sending the money, however, I noticed that for some reason you had to send it through Washington D.C. and, as usual, those crooks deducted $95.00.

Ketchin Up...

Woah its been a while... here's the quick run down in pennie drop life:

And on another random note...did you hear about the new Ukrainian SUV? ..wow those two words in the same sentence...strange.... Talk about a sweet ride.

The very first Ukrainian SUV ...wow those two words in the same sentence...strange....was designed and assembled by the engineers of Kremenchug Autotransport Enterprise....doesnt that ring a bell...c'mon all your lubavitchers out there Kremenchug...we know Kremenchug!!! And look after all those nitzutzos we elevated there look at the result... The VEPR is a civilian vehicle but nonetheless the outside of the car is armoured. The car is 5 meters long and 2 meters tall. VEPR’s mass is over 3 tons. The starting price of a VEPR is $70,000.”

Check it out....

talk about American SUPER POWER...compare and contrast our SUVs...

sing through memory lane

tell me if you know the songs, bet u dont know all of them! ok so the stories are kind of messed up but i needed to put the songs in there somehow! also the words might be slightly changed to fit the story. all the songs are in quotes.

a trip down pop lane:
"a long long time a go i can still remember" when i would "put my hand upon your hip" and we would dance for hours infron tof the mirror "anyone can see the road that we walked on was paved in gold its always summer, we never got cold, never got hungry, never got old and gray". everything seemed "coposetic" until one day you told me you were leaving and you said "save tonight, and fight the brake of dawn, come tomorow, tomorow i'll be gone" we tried but the next morning you wer gone i thought to myself "i hate the world today". i started crying "where o where can my babe be, the L-rd took her away from me" . day in day out i went about my mondane activities but the nights were the hardest because "another night another dream but always you, its like a vision of love that seems to be true" but then i'ld wake up and it was all a dream. until one day at the coffe shop this girl asked me out so i told her "if you wanna be my lover" you have to give me something that i've always wanted because "all that i want is another babe". so we decided to take it slow and went into the candy store, she asked do you smell that when i said know she said, "i smell and sex and candy here" and for the first time we kissed. for the first time in my life "i saw the sign" and things were so clear. i dont know how she could like me "because i'm teenage dirtbag babe" but "she like me for me" . i guess life it funny like that,"its somethng unpredictable, but in the end its right" and it wasnt over yet. when i got home there was a surprise waiting for me at my door it was ex and she said "you still my sunshine". that's my story but "trust me on the sunscreen"

a trip down country lane:
this is the story of agirl who "she's gone country". one day when i was "telling my dreams to the scarecrow" and eating soem BBQ we were talking about "where i come from" when all of a sudden my hand slipped and "i got staind on my white t-shirt" and then along came none onther than bobby jo and said, nice going fipsy, well "fancy was my name" so i yelled at him "kiss this, and i dont mean on my rosy red lips" he quickly turned around and said i used to pray that you would like me but now "i thank G-d for unanswered prayers". well that got me mad, and i said; how do you expect me to compete with your 400 girlfriends," #5 just cries a river on end, 7 wants to tie you up and drown you in again 13, just wants to say so long by gones, 32 wants to do things to you that will make you blush" then b4 i knew it, he was right next to me sayin, you know "my love is deeper then the holler, stronger than the wind blows, and honest a robin on springtime window sill and longer the song of wipper will" so what do you say will youcome with me to the "concrete angel" dance we're only "young" once? "and i said yes, and he said wow, i said when, and he said how about right now." and "we danced" after he asked me "how do you like me now" but before i could answer "the thunder rolled and the lightning striked" we ran for cover under a tree an i told him what my grandma told me everytime it rained that "there's holes in the floor of heaven and tears are comming down" he responded that they better be putin in a good word for us because "we need some help, down here on earth" and we both lauphed! i looked into his eyes and said, thank you. he looked into mine and said "you dont owe me a thing, i've been there too" out of no where, he grabbed my arm and said lets "run through a two lane highway...cuz it sure looks like a good day to run." i said are yo crazy i'm gonna go home and "praying for daylight waitin for that morning sun" a with that i was off.

now for all you angster fans out there's here;s my version of the friday night list, if i made any errors keep them to yourself!:)
Tottie- "Hashem made an angel"Ema- "the little bird"/ "another day"
Etty-"the 59th street gang"
chanie-she doesnt have one; we have to get her one!
yehuda-" hue klalyankel/jo demajios card"(basicaly any journeys song)
frumie- "the sun is going down"
pesh-every song
sa'adia-"my zaide lived with us in our parents....he spoke about his life in rehab"
muskha-some song from camp that no one knows

To get you thinkin...

The following was written by Ben Stein and recited by him on CBS Sunday Morning Commentary, Sunday, 12/18/05.

Herewith at this happy time of year, a few confessions from my beating heart: I have no freaking clue who Nick and Jessica are. I see them on the cover of People and Us constantly when I am buying my dog biscuits and kitty litter. I often ask the checkers at the grocery stores. They never know who Nick and Jessica are either. Who are they? Will it change my life if I know who they are and why they have broken up? Why are they so important?

I don't know who Lindsay Lohan is either, and I do not care at all about Tom Cruise's wife.

Am I going to be called before a Senate committee and asked if I am a subversive? Maybe, but I just have no clue who Nick and Jessica are.

If this is what it means to be no longer young, it's not so bad.

Next confession:
I am a Jew, and every single one of my ancestors was Jewish. And it does not bother me even a little bit when people call those beautiful lit up, bejeweled trees Christmas trees. I don't feel threatened. I don't feel discriminated against. That's what they are: Christmas trees.

It doesn't bother me a bit when people say, "Merry Christmas" to me. I don't think they are slighting me or getting ready to put me in a ghetto. In fact, I kind of like it. It shows that we are all brothers and sisters celebrating this happy time of year. It doesn't bother me at all that there is a manger scene on display at a key intersection near my beach house in Malibu. If people want a creche, it's j ust as fine with me as is the Menorah a few hundred yards away.

I don't like getting pushed around for being a Jew, and I don't think Christians like getting pushed around for being Christians. I think people who believe in God are sick and tired of getting pushed around, period. I have no idea where the concept came from that America is an explicitly atheist country. I can't find it in the Constitution, and I don't like it being shoved down my throat.

Or maybe I can put it another way: where did the idea come from that we should worship Nick and Jessica and we aren't allowed to worship God as we understand Him?

I guess that's a sign that I'm getting old, too.

But there are a lot of us who are wondering where Nick and Jessica came from and where the America we knew went to.

In light of the many jokes we send to one another for a laugh, this is a little different: This is not intended to be a joke; it's not funny, it's intended to get you thinking.

Billy Graham's daughter was interviewed on the Early Show and Jane Clayson asked her "How God could let something like this Happen?" (Regarding Katrina)

Anne Graham gave an extremely profound and insightful response. She said, "I believe God is deeply saddened by this, just as we are, but for years we've been telling God to get out of our schools, to get out of our government and to get out of our lives.

And being the gentleman He is, I believe He has calmly backed out. How can we expect God to give us His blessing and His protection if we demand He leave us alone?"

In light of recent events...terrorists attack, school shootings, etc. I think it started when Madeleine Murray O'Hare (she was murdered, her body found recently) complained she didn't want prayer in our schools, and we said OK.

Then someone said you better not read the Bible in school . the Bible says thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not steal, and love your neighbor as yourself. And we said OK.

Then Dr. Benjamin Spock said we shouldn't spank our children when they misbehave because their little personalities would be warped and we might damage their self-esteem (Dr. Spock's son committed suicide). We said an expert should know what he's talking about. And we said OK.

Now we're asking ourselves why our children have no conscience, why they don't know right from wrong, and why it doesn't bother them to kill strangers, their classmates, and themselv es.

Probably, if we think about it long and hard enough, we can figure it out. I think it has a great deal to do with "WE REAP WHAT WE SOW."

Funny how simple it is for people to trash God and then wonder why the world's going to hell.

Funny how we believe what the newspapers say, but question what the Bible says.

Funny how you can send 'jokes' through e-mail and they spread like wildfire but when you start sending messages regarding the Lord, people think twice about sharing.

Funny how lewd, crude, vulgar and obscene articles pass freely through cyberspace, but public discussion of God is suppressed in the school and workplace.

Are you laughing?

stuck in the middle

have you ever felt stuck, like you didnt belong anywhere? well this post is dedicated for all you in betweeners such as myself. on the one hand your chabad, but on the other hand alot of your friends and your schools arnt chabad. in the chabad world they call you a snag and in the non-chabad world you're put on this pedastil of chabadnick! ok so thats a huge exageration but i'm just trying to make a point. it reminds me of that song from journeys "what your looking for is right there at your door, believe me when i tell you friend, you couldn't ask for more but what ur heart has knowns is that their is no place like home, so come on back o u'll never be alone" sometimes you feel like you belong but its such a brief moment. i dont know maybe its all in my head as chanie says. maybe we should start our own group called the inbetweeners and the geja people will feel like they dont belong b/c we'll be a bunch of second generation ba'al teshuva families! hey i actually like that idea. tell me what u think
